The Short Answer
Engineered flooring has a real wood surface over a layered core. That is the whole idea in one sentence, and it is why many Aurora and Denver area homeowners ask us about it when they want the look of wood in a room where they would like a little more stability underneath. We install it two ways, glued down or locked in place, and we choose the method to suit your room.
What Is Engineered Flooring Made Of?
A real wood surface
The top of an engineered plank is real wood, so what you see and walk on is wood. That is the part that gives the floor its grain and its natural look from room to room.
A layered core underneath
Under the wood surface sits a layered core. This is what sets engineered flooring apart from a solid plank of hardwood flooring, and it is the reason we look closely at the subfloor and the room before we recommend an install method.
How We Install It: Glue Down or Click and Lock
We install engineered planks in two ways, and neither is right for every room.
- Glue down: the planks are bonded to the subfloor.
- Click and lock: the planks connect to each other and lock into place.
Which one we use depends on your subfloor and on how you use the space. That is why the first step of every job is a conversation and a look at the room, not a one size fits all plan.
Where Engineered Flooring Fits in a Home
We lay engineered wood floors in bathrooms, halls and living areas. Because the surface is real wood, it can give a hallway or a living room the warm look people want, and our team pays attention to the details that make the finished floor look right:
- Careful layout so plank lines run true
- Even seams between planks
- Clean cuts around fixtures and doorways

We match glue down or click and lock to the room.
Install the planks
The planks are laid with even seams and straight lines.
Check the finish
We walk the floor with you and confirm every detail before we call the job done.
Comparing It With Other Floors
Engineered flooring is one of several options we install. If you are still deciding, we also lay hardwood, vinyl and laminate floors, and we refinish existing hardwood when the floor you already have has plenty of life left. Because we work with all of them, we can talk through the choices with you rather than steering you to just one. You can read more on our engineered flooring installation page.
